The Next Study, CAM Optimization

For the first time in the FSAE engine development I think, I want to model the CBR600 intake cams and study the influence of its profile in the discharge coefficient of the intake process. I'll do something near to that Professor Blair did. The profile of the cam will be divided to 5 separate parts and the modeling process of each parts will be based on third power curve with different coefficients in the five areas. With the power of the gtSuite and a validate model of the CBR600 F4i, I'll be able to forecast the influence of the profile of the cam in discharge coefficient and brake power. I guess the optimized intake cam will increase the brake power at least 10hp.

A Paper in 5th ICEC accepted in poster

I am happy to announce that my paper in simulation and experimental analysis of the IUT FSAE CBR600 engine, Induction Analysis and Optimizations of A Restricted Race Engine by Means of Improving the Brake Power, have been accepted in the 5th Internal Combustion Engines international Congress (ICEC) in Tehran, Iran. This is a co-work between me, Dr. M.DavazdahEmami and A.R.Abbasi, started when I was a member of 2006 IUT FSAE team in January 2006 and continued till June 2007. We used the Queens University FSAE data in engine experimental section and compared them with the gt-Power engine simulation. I will post all my effort on this article in extended description here in near future.

Honda CBR600 Simulation Details

I have used the gt-Power's 4CYL default model to start modeling my engine. First I removed the intake piping and built the new intake system like our engine primary intake manufactured.

The above Image showing my intake modeling at first. I didn't change the specifications of the parts 1000, 1 and throttle 01 except of their diameters. Then I set 100mm diameter plenum with 6mm bellmouth output connected to the intake runners (parts 34, 35, 36 & 37). After that I inserted the cylinder geometry to the model.
In the near future I will detail the injectors, throttle and valves model.
This is my full results of the simulation.

Honda CBR600 Simulation with gt-Power

After a long time I was away from the IUT FSAE engine program, at least I succeeded to simulate the whole engine in the gt-Power software. The image bellow shows the comparison of my simulation results with the stock engine dyno test.

In the next two days I'll post my model specifications.
